Well Being

"The part can never be well unless the whole is well." —Plato

A profound insight that I’ve gained from spending time (both professionally and personally) in the company of children, is the powerful connection between diet and behavior. Over the years I have seen consistent patterns between the food children eat and their performance in school.

This seems like a simple concept, but it has important implications for our children. We need to make sure that the food we feed them and the habits we nurture are in line with our expectations for their behavior. Simply telling children that certain foods and other choices they make pertaining to their health are “good” or “bad” for you is not enough. They need to know the “why” behind these statements. When children are able to develop a good understanding of how their body works and what they need to do to take care of it, they are equipped with the tools they need to make the right decisions for themselves. For in the end, we want them to know how to make their own choices based on sound information.
