"New and broader global visions are needed to prepare children and youth to be informed, engaged and critical citizens in the new millennium." —Marcelo M. Sua’rez-Orozco

Our world is growing more and more interconnected everyday. All one has to do is trace the origins of the food on the dinner table to realize that we are all part of an interdependent global community—where peoples’ actions in one region can have enormous impacts on another. Our children are more likely to learn, live, interact and work with a wider array of people from different religious, linguistic, racial, national and philosophical backgrounds than any other generation before them.

A solid knowledge of geography is in important step in developing a global awareness. Yet, learning the names and boundaries of each country alone is not enough to prepare your child for life in the 21st century. It is equally important to nurture an understanding and appreciation for the cultures, history, traditions and belief systems of the people that reside within those boundaries. Children’s worldly sensibilities must also be brought together with the development of the social and emotional skills that they will need as they navigate their way through a diverse and ever-changing world.
